Toy Storage Tips Information

If you have children or grandchildren in your life and all over your home, you probably have to get pretty creative with toy storage.

You want your home to continue to look good and yet there are toys everywhere. What are some of the ways you can store the toys and keep the décor of your home intact?

Some people would just say 'don’t worry about it; when they go off to college you will get your house back.' This is a defeatist attitude. You do not have to sacrifice your décor all the time when you find adequate toy storage.

Throughout your room, place items that can do double duty as toy storage where they can be used. Under a window you can place a cedar chest type item with cushions on top for sitting and looking out at the landscape. The chest can be filled to the top with toys and stuffed animals and then closed so that they are out of sight.

Bookcases are very good for toy storage. Those with doors that shut out the clutter are my favorite for use in a main room. Shelves can be used to store the child’s favorite books but stuffed animals will perch there happily, too. The shelves can be used to store games and other toy items that are in their own boxes. Take several bins made from plastic boxes with lids and use them as drawers to slide onto the shelves. These bins can be used to hold small items like blocks and small toy soldiers and cars. Don’t forget a box for the coloring books and crayons and markers.

If that still isn’t enough storage, a long buffet type chest along a wall will help out. With deep drawers to use for toy storage, the item is decorative and adult and will fit into your décor.

Furniture makers have been taking toy storage into account lately when producing chairs, sofas and foot stools. Many of these items are made to include toy storage. A large sectional sofa may have built in drawers under the bottom of each section for you to use to store your toys or your craft and coloring items. Foot stools are made hollow so that the top can be removed and toys stored inside and out of sight.

Of course there are containers and baskets that can be used in adjunct to other pieces of furniture to maintain your 'adultness' in your home décor while putting up the toys that seem to be the problem.

Teaching your child to pick up his toys when he is finished and before he brings out another batch of toys is essential to keeping your house half way decently cleaned up. The child may balk at picking up and you may have to teach him that things that do not get picked up tend to disappear and not be seen again.
