Information on Toy Storage Responsibility

Children need to be taught responsibility and putting up their toys is one way that parents can do that.

A parent should start to teach a child to put up his toys as soon he is old enough to get them out by himself. If a child can get his toys out to play with them he can learn to put them back up again. Begin by making it seem like a game at the beginning and then have it become something that he needs to do. Keeping a child’s area cutter free is difficult enough without making it seem like a chore. If you pick out some of the colorful chests and little bureaus with drawers they will be more likely to put their things up. If you teach a child to be organized early in life, you will form a habit that will work well for them throughout life.

It can be as simple as shelves that hold colorful bins the children can fill with their toys or as complicated as a bin with a chicken’s head on the top but children’s toy storage needs to be colorful and inventive. You need the furniture to be useful as well as colorful and inventive. If you have windows in the playroom, you need to put a chest underneath it with a cushion on top. The child can use the chest to sit on and read or play. Inside the chest can be filled with toys but later on it can be used to hold clothes or bed linen.

If your child has a good sized closet, you can put in closet organizers. On one side you can put shelves from the top of the closet to the floor. On the other side put racks to hang clothing. At the bottom of both sides there will be room for shoe holders and for a large bin for stuffed animals.

You can have a shelf made to look like a castle or a house. You can have double sided toy storage fixtures that with a side that is fitted out with a drawing board. The other side can be fitted out with selves for books and toy bins. You can purchase storage units with a theme to match the theme of the children’s bedroom. If you want to purchase something that can be used long term, perhaps you should choose something in primary colors so that it can go with the child into the teenage years and maybe even into college.

Make your child’s room into a haven for him and his friends. The toy storage that you choose for your child will help him with making decisions and with being organized all of his life. Choose something that will be easy for him to use and that will fit in with his toy selections. You should provide something for books, stuffed animals, small toys and large toys. There should be shelves for games, cubbies for coloring books and bins for small toys and crayons.
