Outdoor Toy Storage

You finally have the inside of the house secured. All the toys are in the toy boxes or bins. Now you have to tackle to toys outdoors.

Obviously the easiest way to store the outdoor toys is in the garage. While this may work for the bicycle or the skateboard, it might not work for everything. If you have room in your garage you can set aside a special place for the outdoor toys like jeeps, tractors, bull dozers, shovels and pails. If you have a pool in your back yard you might have a bench much like a toy box to store your water toys and water guns and floats. You can purchase a cupboard from Rubbermaid to stand outside in your pool enclosure. In this fixture, you can put your life preservers, floats, swim rings, swim masks and fins, and other things for playing outdoors.

You can buy plastic covers for tricycles, bicycles, pedal cars and other large outdoor toys. Some of the outdoor toys do not need storage. These would be the large play apparatus such as forts, swing sets, and slides.

Outdoor storage buildings are often used to store outdoor toys. It is easy to put your riding toys inside if there is not room in the garage. Outdoor toy storage really is not all that difficult. It really comes down to whether or not you have room in the garage or in the storage building. If your child has certain things that belong outdoors and you have room on a side porch to store them, you might put a shelf out there with plastic bins to hold items like sidewalk chalk, silly putty, modeling clay, finger paints and other things you would rather not have play with inside the house. Storing some outdoor toys on the porch allows for playing outdoors on a rainy day. It is a good idea to have a plastic covered table out on the porch so that your child can get some fresh air on rainy days.

Some people have room underneath their porch to store outdoor toys such as sleds and bikes and other riding toys. This is a good space only if it is well lit and you are sure there are no snakes or spiders there.

A sandbox does not have to be stored away in a special place but you do have to put the top on it to keep the rain out of the sand and to keep animals and bugs out.

When you run out of all other ideas, purchase a large tarp and cover the outdoor toy with it. You can tie it down to keep it from blowing up during a rain storm and getting the items wet.

If you don’t have a garage but you do have a carport, you can put up brackets on the back wall to hang your bicycles and riding toys. Then you can put up shelves and bins to hold the smaller items. If there is something that you do not want your child to access without you then put it in a cabinet with a lock.
